Good advice, but obviously there are exceptions. I have a site that gets about 10,000 pageviews a day, and Adsense tanked on it. Even my weblog with less than 1000 pageviews a day was getting more (a couple dollars a day). Then again, the high traffic site is a programming resource site, and most visitors are from Google looking for a quick answer.
I'm with Peter on this one. I also get about 10k pageviews per day, and Adsense is hardly the revenue panacea Marshall makes it out to be. I'm only making 2-3 bucks a day with it.
Traffic does not always equal revenue.

You are correct -- every site is different. It is possible to create web sites that get 15 cent CPM from an Adsense ad. It is also possible to create sites that get $5 CPM from an Adsense ad. Your mileage may vary.
If you create a site where visitors tend to come, read one page and leave, then (as a general rule) you have created a site where Adsense ads will perform poorly. In this article he says, "If you build a good site with an average of 4 to 5 pages per user..." There is a reason why he says that -- A "good site" yields more clicks, as a general rule.
Also, different audiences have different tendencies when it comes to ads. "Teenage boys" have different clicking behavior than "mothers with small children" do. And so on.

I have a small PBEM community site with around 300K impressions per month. It does not make a dollar, as these impressions are made by 150-250 unique people who do not click ads at all :)
My website doesn't receive as many hits yet because it is new. But I find that by placing the ads in a smart way and basically designing the site in a way that gets people to click on my ads, gets me some revenue. I hope when I increase my traffic to a few thousand page views a day, my revenue will also increase accordingly.
